TV Network Website Viewers Drop as Netflix, Amazon Gain Steam: Study
'Orange Is the New Black' is driving Netflix's growth as ABC.com and NBC.com viewership falls

TV network websites are in decline as subscription streaming services gain users, a new survey from RBC Capital Markets reveals. Of those polled in September, 42 percent used Netflix to watch movies or TV during the past year, second only to YouTube with 44 percent. Hulu and Amazon ranked third and fourth, respectively, with Amazon clocking the most growth.

Meanwhile, TV network services, including ABC.com and NBC.com, have seen a decline in viewership. What's driving Netflix's growth? A record 19 percent of respondents said that shows like Orange Is the New Black were "extremely important" in their decision to subscribe. Says RBC analyst Mark Mahaney, "That exclusivity makes Netflix special."
