Fox News still has bragging rights with total viewers, but the Anderson Cooper event nearly doubles its competition among adults 25-54.

President Obama's town hall sit down with Anderson Cooper averaged 2.4 million viewers, 845,000 of them adults 25-54, for CNN on Thursday night.

With those numbers, Guns in America topped cable news for the night in the targeted demo. It bested Fox News Channel's performance in the same period by 83 percent and MSNBC's by a massive 272 percent.

FNC still had bragging rights for total viewers. Between 8 and 9:15 p.m., the time primarily occupied by Bill O'Reilly (with 15 minutes' worth of Megyn Kelly), the channel topped with an audience of 3 million.

CNN's post-game coverage also topped in the key demo, which is more good news for the typically No. 2 network. CNN, which hosted the most recent GOP debate, also logged a 25-54 win for the month of December.
