TV18 launches India ticket service


NEW DELHI -- Mumbai-based broadcasting group TV18 on Tuesday announced the launch of, a one-stop ticketing source for movies, plays and live events in 27 Indian cities.

The online and phone-based service is a part of TV18's Internet division, Web18, and its recently acquired ticketing solutions provider, Mumbai-based Big Tree Entertainment.

Though there are existing film-ticketing services, largely run by cinema chains, aims to offer a comprehensive service covering various events and venues. For film tickets, the service has partnered with such major major cinema chains as New Delhi-based PVR Cinemas and Mumbai-based Adlabs Cinemas and Inox among others.

TV18 recently announced an equal joint partnership with Viacom, Viacom-18, which will run various entertainment ventures in broadcasting and film. In an interview Tuesday, TV18 CEO Haresh Chawla clarified that Web 18 and the ticketing service were not part of Viacom-18.

"With Bigtree Entertainment, we have strengthened the TV18 Group's foray in the entertainment space by diversifying our offerings to consumers" Chawla said. "Big Tree's bookmyshow is uniquely positioned to fulfill the evolving ticketing needs of Indian audiences in the most fair, secure and convenient manner."

The site offers online real-time booking and seat selections across venues. Visitors can print their tickets, while booking details also can be received via mobile phone.
