'Twilight' effect boosts E1's U.K. boxoffice

Indie distributor crosses $150 mil mark after 20 releases

TORONTO -- The "Twilight" effect has helped E1 Films U.K. pass the £100 million ($152 million) boxoffice milestone with 20 theatrical releases after 19 months in business, the British distributor reported Monday.

The indie outfit, a division of Toronto-based E1 Entertainment, has had four British boxoffice winners with four Summit Entertainment titles secured as part of an output deal -- three installments of the "Twilight" franchise and "Knowing."

E1 Films U.K., enjoying a near-7% market share this year, has in its theatrical pipeline Floria Sigismondi's "The Runaways," Joe Dante's "The Hole 3D," the Rhys Ifans-starrer "Mr Nice," the actioner "Red" and Peter Weir's "The Way Back."
