Sofia Helin ('The Bridge') plays Norwegian Crown Princess Martha in the true-life tale of the relationship between the princess and the president that changed world history.

Twin Peaks and Sex and the City star Kyle MacLachlan has boarded Norwegian TV series Atlantic Crossing and will play U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the true-life historic drama.

The eight-part series, from Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, tells the true story of the relationship between President Roosevelt and Norwegian Crown Princess Martha, who fled the Nazi invasion of Norway and sought refuge in America, eventually living at the White House.

Swedish actress Sofia Helin (The Bridge) plays Princess Martha. During her time in the U.S., the princess and the president became close and many historians credit the relationship with helping to convince Roosevelt to bring America into World War 2.

MacLachlan is best known for his role as Special Agent Dale Cooper in David Lynch's seminal mystery series Twin Peaks. MacLachlan received two Emmy nominations for the role: in 1991 after the show's first season and again this year for Lynch's reboot of the show, Twin Peaks: The Return. MacLachlan also starred in two seasons of HBO’s Sex and the City and was a recurring castmember on ABC's Desperate Housewives.

Alexander Eik created Atlantic Crossing and will direct the series, which begins shooting in December. He co-wrote the script with Linda May Kallestein. Norwegian shingle Cinenord is producing for NRK. Beta Film is handling world sales.
