Two at LAFF take residence

Khaled Hosseini, Thom Mayne set for fest

Author Khaled Hosseini and architect Thom Mayne will serve as artists in residence at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival. During the June 18-28 fest, they will program and discuss films that have inspired their work.

Hosseini has selected Cyrus Nowrasteh's "The Stoning of Soraya M.," which will be followed by a panel discussion that includes Nowrasteh, actress Shohreh Aghdashloo and religion writer-scholar Reza Aslan.

Mayne will take part in a dialogue, illustrated with film clips, with cinematographer Frederick Elmes about architecture and the movies.

"We love having artists from different mediums who share a passion for cinema and a critical and conscious engagement with society as our artists in residence," festival director Rebecca Yeldham said.
