Two local films pass million mark in Germany

'Sommer,' 'Cherry Blossoms' both hit mark this week

MUNICH -- Two German-made films broke the million-ticket ceiling in their home market this past week, Mike Marzuk's teen vehicle "Sommer" and Doris Doerrie's drama "Cherry Blossoms -- Hanami," continuing the trend toward greater success for domestic productions in the territory.

This year two other German films have managed the same feat: Dennis Ganzel's "The Wave," about a school experiment in Nazism gone awry, and "The Wild Soccer Bunch 5," which shared its star, Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht, with "Sommer."
