NYFWM: Tyson Beckford Shows Support for Rag & Bone
"I love Rag & Bone, and to be the ambassador for the week, you need to show your face and support for the brands," says the model during designer David Neville's menswear presentation. "You'll see me everyday."
"It’s particularly great for emerging designers to be given a platform to showcase their brands and collections," said designer David Neville, one half of Rag & Bone (with Marcus Wainwright), on Tuesday night at the brand’s spring/summer 2016 presentation, when asked about the first New York Fashion Week: Men's. "It’s been quite a long time coming, and the city is ready for it."
The presentation was packed, as editors, stylists and guests — which included CFDA's ambassadors for the week model-turned-actor Tyson Beckford and basketball star Dwyane Wade with wife and actress Gabrielle Union, both wearing Rag & Bone — mingled, snacking on hors d'oeuvres and sipping on champagne and tequila cocktails.
"We’re really excited about the way that we’re expressing our menswear proposition at the moment," said the British designer. "It’s always built on the real pillars of the brand, which are military, sporty tailoring in an urban context. We’ve been quite instinctual and brought with us the references that we grew up with in England and infused that with the energy and inspiration of New York City."
The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr., also in Rag & Bone, was DJ for the night, and stopped the music every now and then for three giant projections to play the brand’s Georgie Greville-directed short film, showcasing the collection. (Watch the film on Thursday at 9 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. ET exclusively here. In the meantime, you can watch a clip below.
An hour into the event, the party was still in full swing, as Neville could be found chatting away with Wade and Union, who shortly thereafter walked around together to view each look displayed.
"I love Rag & Bone, and to be the ambassador for the week, you need to show your face and support for the brands. You’ll see me everyday," said Beckford. "In September, it’ll be 23 years that I’ve been in fashion. Once a model, always a model. I’ll always be one and feel like one," he added with a smile.
