UA opens designer cineplex in Hong Kong

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's first designer cinema, UA tmtplaza, has opened in Tuen Mun Town Plaza, UA said Wednesday.

The designer cinema at Town Plaza located in the northwest of the New Territories, is UA's ninth cinema complex in Hong Kong.

The four-screen theater was designed by Alexander Wong, director of Asiacity Architects, and seats 559 patrons.

"Cinemagoing is more than simply watching a movie -- it is an event," said C.L. Chan, general manager of UA Cinema Circuit Ltd. "UA tmtplaza is a work of art, designed to reflect the lifestyles of our customers. We want them to be immersed and stimulated by every facet of the cinemagoing experience."

He added that the architecture of this cinema is inspired by modern design and fantasy and is intended to change the way viewers experience a movie.

The cinema has several themed sections, beginning with Rabbit Hole, inspired by "Alice in Wonderland." The Enchanted Garden lobby has a dreamy ocean-blue concession stand complete with marshmallow clouds. The auditoriums themselves are divided into the Inferno, the Magic Forest, the Cave and the Golden Dreams.

Earlier this year, UA opened UA Megabox and Imax.
