U.K. Box Office: 'Big Hero 6' Hugs Top, 'The Interview' Debuts in 10th Place
'Paddington' finally fell out of the top 10 following a tremendous 10-week run.
After another hard-fought battle, there was no movement at the top of the U.K. box office, with Big Hero 6 and Kingsman: The Secret Service retaining their 1-2 positioning on their second weeks of release.
Big Hero 6 took home $3.7 million, while Kingsman captured $3.3 million, closely followed by Sean the Sheep Movie, the week’s top new entry, with $3.2 million. The film is StudioCanal’s first family feature since Paddington, which finally fell out of the top 10 after an outstanding 10-week run.
Despite being poorly received by critics, Jupiter Ascending landed in fourth place with $2.1 million, pushing American Sniper down to fifth after four weeks. Selma, snubbed at the recent BAFTAs to the astonishment of Benedict Cumberbatch, debuted in the sixth spot with $1.2 million.
The week’s only other debut was Sony's controversial comedy The Interview. Curiosity over reviews (mostly bad) probably gave the movie a leg up, earning it the 10th place spot with $400,000.
