'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' stays on top for its second week, while 'Chappie' creaks into fourth place.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel landed at the top of the U.K. box office for the second week in a row, successfully fending off Focus, Fifty Shades of Grey and even Neill Blomkamp’s U.S. chart-topping Chappie.

The Judi Dench and Maggie Smith-starring comedy sequel about a group of British retirees living in India saw its revenues drop by 50 percent, down to $2.9 million from a debut of $5.8 million. But that was still enough to overtake the Will Smith heist vehicle Focus ($2 million), which leapfrogged Fifty Shades of Grey ($1.6 million) to land at second place.

Chappie was the week’s highest charting new entry, its takings of $1.5 million enough to beat another robot adventure, Disney's somewhat less dystopian (although rather better reviewed) Big Hero 6, which took $1.2 million. The Oscar-winning animated film has now spent six weeks in the top five.

Other new entries included Still Alice, featuring Julianne Moore's best actress Oscar-winning performance, in eighth place and Vince Vaughn's Unfinished Business in the ninth spot. Both earned $600,000.
