Ukraine city, private group fight for control of the channel

MOSCOW -- Staffers at the Ukrainian TV station 34 Channel have threatened to go on hunger strike over a controversy concerning the channel's ownership.

Based in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine's third-largest city and major industrial center, the channel has become an object of struggle for control between the city's authorities and a group of private individuals, both of which are trying to consolidate a controlling stake.

The staff, which is loyal to the city authorities, said that if the head of the channel's TV studio, who was recently sacked by the opposing group, is not reinstated, they will go on hunger strike.
