Ukraine defies ban on Russian TV

Controversy deepens as parliament dissolved

MOSCOW -- Controversy over broadcasting of Russian satellite TV channels in Ukraine deepened as the country enters a political crisis following the dissolution of its parliament on Thursday.

The city authorities in the large industrial center of Zaporozhye have defied the ruling of the national government that Russian channels Ren-TV, Channel One, TVC and RTR-Planeta should be taken off satellite packages.

Simultaneously, Russia’s foreign ministry envisaged souring of relations between the two countries, unless restriction of Russian channels’ broadcasting are lifted.
