Ukraine's Odessa studio has rough first half

Partially privatized studio's future remains unclear

MOSCOW -- Ukraine's Odessa studio complex has reported year-to-year losses for the third quarter and the first half.

Third-quarter net losses stood at 5.1 million hryvnas ($1 million), while net losses for the January-September period stood at 8.6 million hryvnas ($1.7 million).

Located in Odessa, the country's fourth-largest city, the Odessa film studio was partially privatized three years ago and its future remains uncertain.

In late October, the Odessa chapter of the Ukrainian filmmakers' union sent an open letter to the country's president and prime minister, expressing concerns about the studio's future.
