U.K.'s Five fields series on Beckham

LONDON -- U.K. terrestrial broadcaster Five said it will mark David Beckham's debut as part of the Los Angeles Galaxy with a weekly show, "David Beckham's Soccer U.S.A.," which will have live coverage of Major League Soccer matches.

The series bows July 24 and follows Beckham and his wife, Victoria, in England and Spain with Manchester United and Real Madrid and shows how the family adapts to a different life in North America on and off the pitch. Five will have exclusive access to the Beckhams.

The live soccer action on Five begins when Beckham makes his scheduled debut for the Galaxy on Aug. 5 against Toronto. The series will be produced by 19 Management and feature other well-known players who have made the switch to the MLS, including Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel and former Newcastle and West Ham keeper Shaka Hislop.

The series will include coverage of soccer wives and girlfriends and their glamorous friends, including Tom Cruise, Eric Clapton and Steven Spielberg.

"There is no doubt that David Beckham's arrival in the U.S. will give Major League Soccer a huge boost, and we're delighted that Five's viewers will be able to see the impact he has on the game over there, both on and off the field," Five controller of sport Robert Charles said. "We will have unprecedented access to his new life, and viewers will be able to see not only how he and his family settle in the U.S. but also how the American public takes to one of the most charismatic players the world has ever seen."
