Unikorea hears 'Song' bird

HONG KONG -- Unikorea bought the South Korean rights to Majid Majidi's "The Song of Sparrows," Fortissimo Films said Monday.

Neither side disclosed details of the deal, but Fortissimo said that Unikorea intended to provide theatrical distribution.

"Unikorea is big fans of the director's works," said Winnie Lau, senior vp sales and acquisition at Fortissimo. "I'm happy to see indie films reviving and being distributed in Korea. It is quite a competitive market."

"Sparrows" lead Reza Najie won the Silver Bear for best actor at February's Berlin International Film Festival, and Fortissimo acquired worldwide rights (outside of Iran) soon after.

Majidi's previous films include "Children of Heaven," "The Color of Paradise" and "Baran."
