Universal goes mobile in Mexico

MEXICO CITY -- Universal Channel on Tuesday launched an Internet platform in Mexico that allows Telcel mobile phone users to access TV and film content.

Universal Channel has a carriage deal in place with Telcel, Mexico's No. 1 cell phone operator. A company statement said that Mexico is the first step in a pan-regional expansion that will take place throughout Latin America.

In Mexico, Telcel clients can download ringtones, wallpapers and content from such television series as "The 4400" and "Law & Order" as well as feature films including "Brokeback Mountain" and "Jurassic Park."
