Universal Nabs Hot Thriller Trilogy 'Mad, Bad and Dangerous' (Exclusive)
Chloe J. Esposito's book was a hot property at the London Book Fair in early April.
Universal has optioned the film rights to hot thriller trilogy Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know.
The book was the belle of the London Book Fair earlier this month, where it sold in 15 territories, including the U.S. and the U.K. It is the debut novel from British writer Chloe Esposito.
The property is described as a sexy thriller with a darkly comic voice starring a badass anti-heroine. It centers on an identical twin, Alvina Knightly, who goes to great lengths to steal her sister's perfect life, which leads to sex, lies and even murder.
The first book in the planned trilogy is slated to be released globally in 2017.
The book was one of the hottest properties at the London Book Fair, closing north of $2.9 million in publishing deals, which helped catch the interest of several studios and producers for a film adaptation. (The Hollywood Reporter included the book in its Rights Available! column after it set the London Book Fair abuzz.)
Michael De Luca will produce via his Universal-based Michael De Luca Productions. De Luca Productions executive Johnny Pariseau brought in the project, and director of development Chloe Yellin will oversee for Universal.
Esposito, a graduate of the Faber Academy’s writing program, is repped by WME.
