Man Fatally Shoots Himself at Universal Studios

The man died inside the park.

A man fatally shot himself inside Universal Studios on Friday afternoon, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Deputy Ryan Rouzan said that the man killed himself inside the theme park between 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. near the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride. No one else appears to have been injured.

According to police, the shooter didn't threaten anyone before killing himself, and the entire incident appears to have been unprovoked. The shooter was the only person involved. His body has not yet been removed from the scene.

After the shooting, park security evacuated the immediate area.

April 3, 5:18 p.m. Updated with the following statement from a Universal Studios spokesperson:

L.A. County Sheriff's Department has confirmed there was a possible suicide on our property. We are working closely with law enforcement and corporate security on this ongoing investigation. The safety and security of our guests and employees are always of the utmost importance. The park remains open.
