Update: Obama cancels 'SNL' cameo

Candidate was booked for Saturday's season premiere

Barack Obama has postponed his appearance on "Saturday Night Live" because of Hurricane Ike, which made landfall in Texas early Saturday morning.

The Democratic presidential candidate had been booked for the NBC show's season premiere on Saturday. His appearance will be rescheduled for a more appropriate time, his campaign said.

"In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Sen. Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on 'Saturday Night Live' tomorrow evening," an Obama spokeswoman said.

The campaign said Thursday that Obama would make his second appearance on the show this weekend and that details of his sketch were still being worked out. Also scheduled to appear is Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Michael Phelps.

Obama last appeared on the program in November 2007, making a cameo during an opening skit about a Halloween party at Hillary Clinton's house, in which she was portrayed as the presumptive president. As it turned out, Obama defeated Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
