USA's 'Monk,' 'Psych' debut strong

Season premieres do well Friday night

USA's drama series "Monk" and "Psych" had strong season premieres Friday night.

"Monk's" seventh-season debut averaged 5.6 million total viewers at 9 p.m. Friday, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Psych" held on to 86% of its "Monk" lead-in, averaging 4.9 million total viewers for its third-season bow at 10 p.m.

That marked "Monk's" second-best season bow, behind Season 4 (6.4 million) three years ago. "Psych" also improved over its Season 2 debut a year ago (4.3 million), though it didn't match the series premiere numbers (6.1 million) from July 2006.

In the key demo of adults 18-49, "Monk" and "Psych" averaged about 2 million, with the latter pulling in 47,000 more viewers in the demo.
