User-generated video is 50% of all streams

But generates only 4% of ad-related online revenue

BRUSSELS -- User-generated video will continue to account for nearly half of online videos streamed between 2008 and 2013, but will produce no more than 4% of ad-related online video revenue during the period, according to a new report.

The report, released Tuesday by the Diffusion Group, said that prospects for online video advertising have little to do with user-generated video, except as an indirect way of drawing more viewers to professional online video sites capable of generating ad-related revenue.

User-generated video accounts for 42% of online video streams and 3.7% of ad revenue, the report said, while professional online video accounts for 58% of streams and 96% of ad-related revenue, figures unlikely to change during the next five years.
