Hindi movies, English biz channels debut Aug. 1

NEW DELHI -- UTV Global Broadcasting will launch its Hindi movie and English-language business channels in Japan, Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 1 on the IPTV platform owned by Tokyo-based firm the New Media Group, the companies said Thursday.

Mumbai-based UGBL, the broadcasting division of UTV Software Communications, said its deal with IPTV service provider TNMG will allow it to target South Asians living abroad with bundled IPTV channels.

In the past six months, UGBL has launched five channels in India, including world cinema channel UTV World Movies, youth channel Bindass and UTVi, for which it has a content-sharing agreement with ABC News.

The announcement was made by UGBL executive director Shantonu Aditya and TNMG president Randy McGraw.
