New Line Hires 'Vacation' Duo to Direct, Write Comedy 'Game Night'
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have been hired to work on the title being produced by Jason Bateman.
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who wrote and directed 2015’s Vacation reboot, have been hired to rewrite the New Line comedy Game Night, which they also will direct.
The move puts the project, first set up at New Line in 2013, back into gear. Jason Bateman is a producer on Game Night and it is being viewed as a possible starring vehicle for the actor. It also reunites the writer-directors with Bateman, with whom they worked on the New Line comedy Horrible Bosses, which they wrote.
Bateman is producing Game Night with his Aggregate Films partner James Garavente along with John Davis, and John Fox will produce for Davis Entertainment.
The plot centers on a group of couples who gather for their regularly planned game night when something goes murderously wrong. Dana Fox and Mark Perez previously worked on the script.
Goldstein and Daley wrote the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the latest Spider-Man movie that is due to begin shooting in June. They are also producing action comedy Stuber for Fox.
The duo, repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson, made their directorial debut with Vacation, which grossed more than $100 million worldwide.
