Vancouver Olympics Coverage Dominates Geminis
TORONTO -- A consortium of Canadian networks that aired the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on Tuesday night snagged seven trophies on the first night of the Geminis, Canada’s TV awards.
Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium won for best live sporting event, best sportcaster for James Duthie, and Alon Marcovici earned a special award for outstanding technical achievement in digital media.
The other big winner Tuesday night was the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., which dominated the TV news categories, including Diana Swain taking home a Gemini for best anchor, and CBC News: The National winning for best breaking reportage by a national newsroom.
The Geminis, staged by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, will hand out more awards Wednesday night in Toronto, ahead of final kudofest on Nov. 13 to be hosted by Glee’s Cory Monteith and to air live nationwide on Global Television.
