Each project will be given a budget of $187,000 so films can be completed by next summer's Venice Film Festival

Three films have been selected for the prestigious Biennale College's 2015 edition. Each project will be given a budget of $187,000 (€150,000) so films can be produced in time for the 72nd Venice Film Festival next summer.

The three winners were chosen from 12 selected projects, which all underwent an intense development workshop. They'll next undergo two more workshops with an elite group of mentors in order to further develop the films.

The selections represent an international group, with participants hailing from Italy, Japan, Poland and the U.S. Each project explores major changes in the lives of young adults.

Poland's Baby Bump, from director Kuba Czekaj and producer Magdalena Kaminska, is the story of the sexual transformation of an 11-year-old boy. As his body changes, a dark force begins to take control of his life.

Blanka, from director Kohki Hasei (Japan) and producer Flaminio Zadra (Italy), will be shot in the Philippines. An 11-year-old girl abandoned by her mother sets out on a journey to buy a new one, discovering a powerful truth about love and family.

And The Fits, from U.S. director Anna Rose Holmer and producer Lisa Kjerulff, explores a 13-year-old dancer whose body begins to betray her. When a mysterious series of fainting spells affects her dance troupe, Toni must conquer her inner demons.

Biennale College has had great success with past projects. The surreal contemporary Greek drama H., directed by Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia, which premiered in last year's festival, was just nominated for the Someone to Watch Film Independent Spirit Award.

Biennale College, led by Venice head Alberto Barbera, has the support of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Directorate General Cinema and the Veneto Region.
