Verizon dials up FiOS TV subscriber growth

Teleco subscribers slow slightly in first quarter

NEW YORK - Telecom giant Verizon saw continued subscriber growth for its FiOS TV service, which competes with cable and satellite TV providers, in the first quarter.

But the momentum of user additions slowed slightly compared with the fourth quarter.

In reporting its latest quarterly earnings, the company said it added 299,000 net new FiOS TV customers in the first three months of the year to bring its total user base to 2.2 million. In the fourth quarter, it had added 303,000.

Verizon also added a record 298,000 net new FiOS high-speed Internet customers, pushing its total to 2.8 million.
