Veteran DreamWorks Exec Joins Universal Pictures
Mark Sourian has been hired at the studio as executive vp production.
Former DreamWorks exec Mark Sourian is joining Universal Pictures as executive vp production.
Sourian was a longtime DreamWorks exec — he joined the Steven Spielberg-led company in 1997 — who segued to becoming an independent producer with a first-look deal with the company in 2012.
“Mark is a respected, hard-working and passionate executive, with considerable experience overseeing a wide range of films,” said co-presidents production Peter Cramer and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum in a joint statement.
Sourian began as a development assistant at DreamWorks, working his way up to co-president in 2009. Among the projects he oversaw were The Ring horror movies and Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman. He was also a producer on Need for Speed starring Aaron Paul.
He will start his new job later in June.
