Viacom taps Grenzbach for licensing post

COLOGNE, Germany -- Arwed-Ralf Grenzbach has been appointed to the new position of vp video games, music and special products at Viacom's entertainment licensing division, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products, Viacom said Tuesday at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany.

Grenzbach's job will be to expand NCVP's interactive and video game business, exploiting the rights to such Viacom brands as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and characters including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Jimmy Neutron, Ren and Stimpy and Beavis and Butt-head.

Grenzbach previously headed Munich-based games publisher Take-Two Interactive, the German publisher for such top-selling video game franchises as "Grand Theft Auto," "Civilization" and "Borderlands." He left the company in June.

Based in London, Grenzbach will report to Jean-Philippe Randisi, vp and managing director of NVCP for Europe, Middle East and Asia.

"Our interactive and video game business has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years, and with Arwed's appointment we are now perfectly positioned to take this business to the next level," Randisi said. "Arwed's previous accomplishments and expertise in brand marketing, licensing and TV distribution combined with his strong relationships with our biggest partners such as THQ, Take-Two Interactive, EMME, Atari and SonyBMG, will prove invaluable as we prepare to expand further into this dynamic product category."
