Viacom18 Unfurls Colors and MTV India in Singapore

The network's Hindi channels will reach Malaysia next.

NEW DELHI -- Viacom18 Media has launched its Hindi general entertainment channel Colors and MTV India in Singapore.

An equal joint venture between Viacom Inc. and leading Indian broadcasting group Network18, Viacom18 is targeting the South Asian diaspora in the Southeast Asian city-state. Colors will be available on both StarHub and SingTel's mio TV platform, while MTV India will only be a part of mio TV.

The network plans to expand to Malaysia in the next six to eight months.

Viacom18 group CEO and CEO Colors Rajesh Kamat said.

“With the launch of Colors and MTV in Singapore, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to serve the entertainment needs of our viewers and strengthen our distribution network in the Asian market. After our successful launches in the U.S., the U.K. and West Asia, we are pleased to now partner with SingTel and StarHub,” Kamat said.

Launched in July 2008, Colors quickly topped ratings with its mix of fiction and reality shows – including the Indian version of Fear Factor -- propelling it among the top three channels challenging market leaders such as News Corp.'s StarPlus and Zee TV.
