Vicon hones motion Blade

Reflecting heavy interest in performance-capture techniques in the creation of animated characters, motion tracking system developer Vicon is set to unveil Blade, a new motion-capture processing software, today at computer graphics confab Siggraph.

The key to the new system is that it is customizable for any type of use. Blade can be used as a simple tool for smaller motion-capture departments or as a customized and hardware-scalable software for large studios. Blade is designed to work with Vicon's real-time motion-capture systems.

Said Tom Tolles, Vicon's entertainment product marketing: "(Blade) puts all the tools into one package in order to streamline everything that happens to motion-capture data — acquisition, solving, cleanup and more — when it comes off of the cameras through to integrating it into a 3-D software package."

Looking further out, Vicon said that it is developing a markerless motion-capture system.

Vicon customers include Industrial Light + Magic and Sony Pictures Imageworks.
