Murray plays the eponymous Vincent, a cantankerous war veteran who bonds with his neighbor Maggie's (McCarthy) young son, Oliver (newcomer Jaeden Lieberher). Needless to say, Maggie isn't thrilled when Vincent introduces her son to his Russian-prostitute companion.
