Chris Martin Talks About Gwyneth Paltrow Split for the First Time (Video)
The Coldplay singer spoke with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, telling him about the "challenges" of his "conscious uncoupling" from the actress.
A month after Gwyneth Paltrow announced on her Goop website that she and husband Chris Martin were embarking on a "conscious uncoupling," the Coldplay singer has opened up about the split for the first time.
Martin sat down with BBC Radio 1 journalist Zane Lowe for an interview this week, where he talked about life "challenges" and splitting up in the spotlight.
"Everyone in their life goes through challenges -- whether it is love or money or kids or illness," said Martin, 37, in a preview clip of the sit-down that will air in full on Monday.
"There have been a lot of false headlines recently but this would be a real one, so you can write that if you like. I'll give you a quote ... I did," he went on to say cryptically in the black-and-white teaser.
Married in 2003 and with two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7, the couple announced in a statement on March 25 that they were separating. "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," read the letter on Goop. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."
During his Radio 1 interview that took place in a recording studio, the British singer went on to lighten up the mood by sharing his devotion for some of his fellow countrymen. "I am saying One Direction are brilliant!" he laughed.
Martin is currently a mentor on NBC's The Voice, where he acts as a universal advisor.
