Fox's 'Gang Related': Behind-the-Scenes Look at an Upcoming Stunt (Exclusive Video)
Stunt coordinator Tim A. Davison explains how to film a convincing drive-by shooting.
The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive look at a behind-the-scenes promo for the July 10 episode of Fox's action-drama Gang Related.
The series stars Ramon Rodriguez (Need for Speed) as a Detective Ryan Lopez, a rising star in Los Angeles' elite Gang Task Force. What nobody knows is that long before Ryan became a cop, he pledge allegiance to a powerful Latino gang called Los Angelicos.
In a debut season filled with action scenes, Thursday’s episode, titled “El Zorro Y El Galinero,” is no exception, and stunt coordinator Tim A. Davison gives an inside look into a key shootout involving Terry O’Quinn’s (Lost) character, Sam Chapel, from the upcoming episode. He explains the importance of telling a story with the action, whether that includes setting the scene with pyrotechnics, getting specific pieces of glass to “cut” the actors or simply coordinating the actors’ movements on screen.
“If it’s not timed right, we got to do it all over again, and frankly, in television we don’t have that kind of time,” Davison says.
In the upcoming episode, trouble begins to brew within the Los Angelicos gang as Javier Acosta’s (Cliff Curtis) leadership is challenged. Meanwhile, Detective Ryan Lopez (Rodriguez) is thrust between a rock and a hard place as a change to California’s “Three Strikes" law impedes his work with the Gang Task Force and an unexpected encounter simultaneously spells trouble for his relationship with Jess (Shantel VanSanten).
RZA, Rey Gallegos, Jay Hernandez, Sung Kang, and Inbar Lavi also star. The series is from 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment, Chris Morgan Productions and Skeeter Rosenbaum Productions.
Gang Related airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays.
