Jenna Lyons Names Her Power List at THR's Most Powerful in NY Media Party (Video)
The J. Crew creative director also noted the differences between L.A. and NYC power-dressing: "Here, it's a little easier to be who you are."
The Hollywood Reporter may have just released the annual list of the most powerful people in New York media, but Jenna Lyons has her own personal power picks.
"Power for me is when someone actually changes things, changes the way you think about something," the J. Crew creative director told THR on the red carpet at the Four Seasons bash on Wednesday night.
"Stephen Colbert has a tremendous amount of power," Lyons said of the upcoming Late Show host. "He took the idea of politics and demystified it, and made it fun and engaging and still a kind of satire." She also named Anna Wintour for expanding the limits of fashion media. "[She] made it more than a magazine, and made it a whole world with the Met Ball and the Vogue Fashion Fund."
When asked about the differences between the L.A. and New York power-dressing, the West Coast native admitted, "I did not own a wool coat, I did not own a wool sweater until I moved to New York," and that the definition of strong look is different in NYC. "They like individualistic glamour. I think in L.A. there's definitely a little more of a traditional way that people look. I was not blonde, I did not have a bathing suit body and I always felt a little out of place. I think here it's a little easier to be who you are."
Lyons made her comments at a bash celebrating THR's 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media list.
