Malaysia Airlines Crash: Footage of Downed Plane Emerges Online (Video)

Three videos show the crash and its aftermath.

Amateur video captured various aspects of the tragic end for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which officials say was shot down Thursday over Ukraine.

The plane was carrying 295 people — 280 passengers and 15 crewmembers — when it was downed. The area recently has been the sight of fighting between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russia separatist rebels.

Below, video of the moment the flight hit the ground can be seen.

Another angle captured the aftermath, with a plume of smoke from the crash site visible.

A third video showed smoke visible from a nearby neighborhood.

President Barack Obama spoke about the crash, offering his condolences.

"It looks like it may be a terrible tragedy. Right now we are working to determine whether American citizens were on board," Obama said.

The missing flight, which originated from Amsterdam, comes four months after a different Malaysia Airlines flight disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The wreckage for the flight, which carried 227 passengers and 12 crew, has not been found.
