Vince Vaughn tops Forbes star payback list

Ranking is average return star gets for recent films

NEW YORK - Studios don't usually get a good return on Hollywood stars with big pay packages, Forbes says in its Entertainment All Stars special issue.

Vince Vaughn tops the magazine's Ultimate Star Payback list, which calculates the average return a star provided for his or her last three movies.

Vaughn's films earned $14.73 for every dollar he was paid, according to Forbes. "That's because until recently his salary was relatively low, and the films he was in, like "Wedding Crashers" and "The Break-Up," had modest budgets yet did extremely well at the boxoffice worldwide ($285 million and $205 million, respectively)," Forbes said.

Tobey Maguire with an ultimate payback of $13.44 and Julia Roberts with $13.19 round out the top three.

Matt Damon, -- who fell from the top spot to sixth due to his bigger pay day for the final "Bourne" movie -- Brad Pitt and George Clooney all rank high as well.

However, people such as Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman (the worst earner for the second year in a row) landed at the bottom due to big pay for films that flopped, Forbes said.
