The actress stars as the brilliant and charismatic law professor Annalise Keating on ABC's How to Get Away with Murder, for which she's nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. Davis was later announced as the winner, making her the first African-American actress to win in that category.

"It would be great to bust through and make history," Davis told The Hollywood Reporter after finding out about her Emmys nom. “But what’s more important is the opportunity to continue to get roles that are complicated and wonderful, to be a part of the narrative and to get to do what our counterparts are able to do. It doesn’t just stop at holding an award."
