Virgin Media snaps up 'Riches'

LONDON -- Virgin Media Television has beaten out a host of rival broadcasters in securing the exclusive rights to air the U.S. dramedy "The Riches," starring British actors Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver.

VMT acquired the U.S. series for its general entertainment channel Virgin 1 from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution in what Virgin describes as a "multimillion-pound deal," the company said Thursday.

"Riches" airs stateside on Fox's FX cable network. The first season will premiere on Virgin 1 in the fall and spearhead its primetime drama schedule, the channel said.

The deal was brokered by Celia Taylor, director of programming at Virgin 1, and Steve Cornish, senior vp and managing director at 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.
