Vittorio Cecchi Gori home from hospital

House arrest awaits pending lawsuits

GENEVA, Switzerland -- Vittorio Cecchi Gori is headed home from the hospital.

The Oscar-winning producer was arrested two months ago on charges of insolvency and jailed in Rome's minimum security Regina Coeli prison until July 9, when he was released and then hospitalized for undisclosed health problems. With his health improved, the embattled 66-year-old has been released from the hospital and will now be under house arrest in his sprawling Renaissance-era apartment in Rome's Palazzo Borghese.

But even though Cecchi Gori's accommodations have improved, his legal prospects have not. He is bankrupt and 25 million euros ($39.5 million) in debt -- his third bankruptcy since the 2002 failure of the Fiorentina soccer club.

Cecchi Gori has filed two counter-suits since March in what promises to be a long, drawn-out series of legal battles.
