Vivica A. Fox is the latest Independence Day castmember to sign on for the upcoming sequel to the 1996 film.

Fox and director Roland Emmerich tweeted Monday night that the actress is officially on board. She joins returning castmember Jeff Goldblum in the film, which is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016, just days before the 20th anniversary of the first film's release.

Fox played Will Smith's exotic-dancer love interest in the first movie. Smith is not expected to return for the sequel, with Emmerich saying in 2013 that he wouldn't be part of the cast for the then-in-the-works follow-up.

Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher are among the new additions to Independence Day 2.

Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing the 20th Century Fox film. James A. Woods and Nicholas Wright wrote the latest draft of the sequel's script.

The original film grossed $800 million worldwide at the box office. Check out Emmerich and Fox's tweets below.
