"The board unanimously chose Guy as the best leader to succeed Nadir and to take the company forward," said Alan Horn, board chairman at Rogers Communications, in a statement Thursday.

Laurence will step into the top Canadian media job on Dec. 2, a month before Mohamed is to leave Rogers Communications.

Before Vodafone, Laurence completed a number of media executive stints, including one at MGM Studios.

"Rogers is an iconic and well-respected company in a great country, and I'm looking forward to joining," said Laurence in his own statement.
