Vue Ent. plans pair of U.K. multiplexes

LONDON -- Exhibition outfit Vue Entertainment said Thursday that it is putting up £6.5 million ($13 million) to build two new multiplex sites in the U.K.

The cinema operator is allotting £4 million ($8 million) for a site in Kent, England, and £2.5 million ($5 million) for one in Stirling, Scotland. Both sites will include digital cinema capabilities, Vue said.

The Kent site will have 10 screens and 1,558 seats, while Stirling will have eight screens and 1,084 seats, Vue said.

"This is a hugely exciting time for Vue, when a lot of our competitors are concentrating on existing sites, we are expanding our portfolio and opening two new cinemas in the space of two months, helping us deliver the Vue experience to more and more people," Vue Entertainment CEO Tim Richards said.
