'W.' will open Turin Film Festival

Oliver Stone pic rejected at Rome festival

ROME -- Oliver Stone's "W.," which caused a stir in Italy after several newspapers speculated that it might have been blocked from the Rome International Film Festival for political reasons, will be the opening film at the 26th annual Turin Film Festival, organizers said Monday.

Rome organizers said they invited the film, but that producers opted to have the European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival instead. But Turin's announcement assures that the satirical look at the presidency of George W. Bush will have its Italian premiere at a festival.

Turin is set to take place Nov. 21-29.
