'Walking Dead' Star Jon Bernthal Joins Denis Villeneuve's 'Sicario' (Exclusive)

The actor, who will star opposite Benecio Del Toro and Emily Blunt in the thriller, has also booked roles in "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl" and the untitled Gerardo Naranjo project.

Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal has joined Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve's next project, Sicario.

The film revolves around a law enforcement agent (Emily Blunt) who works with a mysterious government operative (Benicio Del Toro) and an elite group of fellow agents to track down a drug kingpin.

Bernthal will play a character named Ted in the project, which was written by Taylor Sheridan. Molly Smith's Black Label is financing and producing with Basil Iwanyk's company Thunder Road. Lionsgate will release the film in the U.S.

Bernthal, who played Shane Walsh on AMC’s hit zombie drama The Walking Dead and also starred on the series Mob City, will next be seen on the big screen in David Ayer's hotly anticipated WWII tank drama Fury. The film, also starring Brad Pitt  and  Shia LaBeouf, rolls into theaters on Nov. 14, 2014, via Sony.

The actor has been very busy booking film roles, and, along with Sicario, has nabbed two other parts in upcoming projects.

He's been cast in Me & Earl & the Dying Girl, to be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. The script was written by Jesse Andrews, based on his YA novel, and topped the 2012 Black List. The story follows a high school student who is forced by his mother to be friends with a girl who is fighting leukemia. Bernthal will play a teacher named Mr. McCarthy.

Bernthal has also been cast in the untitled Gerardo Naranjo project, written and to be directed by Naranjo. He will play the role of Monroe in the project, which also stars Dakota Fanning and Evan Rachel Wood.

The actor, most recently seen in The Wolf of Wall Street and Grudge Match, is repped by WME and Burstein Company.
