Wall St. ends higher after Fed comments


NEW YORK -- Stocks closed higher Tuesday, as the Federal Reserve said it still saw moderate economic growth ahead even though credit conditions have tightened for some consumers and businesses. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 33.16 points, or 0.25%, to end unofficially at 13,501.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 8.88 points, or 0.61%, to finish unofficially at 1,476.55. The Nasdaq Composite Index to close unofficially was up 14.27 points, or 0.56%, at 2,561.60.
