Imax has made it official: former Walt Disney global digital strategy exec Jason Brenek has been named head of home entertainment at the giant-screen exhibitor.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Brenek's hire in February 2015 as executive vp. In his new role, Brenek will oversee developing Imax's private home theater offering as its big-screen cinema experience migrates into the living room.

He will report to Robert D. Lister, Imax chief business development officer. Imax's private theater, which can cost up to $2 million, and other high-end home theater systems with Imax projection and sound technologies have been developed through a joint venture with Chinese manufacturer TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Ltd.

"We're seeing more consumers installing bigger and more advanced home entertainment systems, indicating a strong desire for content delivered at an Imax level of quality in the comfort of their own homes," said Brenek on Monday in a statement. He was most recently senior vp worldwide digital cinema and cinema programming at The Walt Disney Company before joining Imax.

At Walk Disney, he oversaw international distribution of studio content on emerging digital platforms after an initial theatrical release. Brenek also worked at 20th Century Fox and as a consultant for Bain & Company before joining Disney.
