Wanda Sykes to Host GLAAD Media Awards Los Angeles
Sykes is no stranger to the event after being honored by the organization in 2010 with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award.
Wanda Sykes has booked a gig for April 12.
The actress-writer-comedian-activist has agreed to host the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards Los Angeles, an event that will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. She'll share the stage with a slew of stars including honorees Britney Spears and Jim Parsons and special guests Lena Waithe, Olympian Adam Rippon, Chloe Grace Moretz and Gigi Gorgeous.
The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for "fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues," per the organization. The event is presented by Delta Air Lines, Gilead, Ketel One Family-Made Vodka and Wells Fargo.
The event will mark a return of sorts for Sykes, who was the 2010 recipient of GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award for her advocacy work on behalf of her LGBTQ brothers and sisters. She was a vocal opponent of California’s Proposition 8 and publicly came out at a rally voicing her opposition to the ballot measure. She can currently be seen on Black-ish and Broad City.
In making the announcement, GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis praised Sykes' varied talents. “Wanda Sykes’ humor, wit and status as one of the most visible out women in Hollywood make her the perfect host for the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles,” said Ellis. “At a time when LGBTQ acceptance and equality are eroding, it’s more important than ever that we celebrate the best in LGBTQ representation, and share a few laughs along the way.”
