Warner Bros.: $3.99 billion b.o. for '09

Marks ninth consecutive $1 billion-plus year

The film team on Warner Bros.' historic lot in "beautiful downtown Burbank" will be forgiven if they sound a little giddy this holiday season.

The Warner Bros. Pictures Group on Monday projected a year-end worldwide boxoffice for 2009 totaling $3.99 billion, besting the studio's own industry record from 2007. Warners projected a domestic tally of $2.13 billion -- surpassing its industry record of $1.79 billion from 2008 -- and foreign grosses totaling $1.86 billion.

The studio's latest 12-month performance represents a ninth consecutive $1 billion-plus year for both the domestic and international film distribution arms.

"We're really proud of this achievement, and it was only possible through the combined efforts of an incredibly talented group of people," Warners film president Jeff Robinov said.
