Warner Bros. tackles 'Athithi'

Second Warner foray stars Ajay Devgn and Paresh Rawal

NEW DELHI -- Warner Bros. Pictures India announced its next Bollywood project, “Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge?” ("Guest, When Will You Leave?"), a comedy caper co-produced with Wide Frame Films and slated for release on February 26, 2010.

While a budget was not given, the film stars actors Ajay Devgn and Paresh Rawal, along with actress Konkona Sen Sharma. “Guest” is directed by Ashwani Dheer and produced by Amita Pathak.

“The script of “Atithi” is a non-stop laugh riot and you add the comical talents of Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal and Konkona Sen, and we have a winner at the boxoffice,” said WBPI deputy MD (Theatrical) Denzil Dias.

“I’m sure people from all walks of life will identify with this because every home must have had a guest who has been the bane of their lives," added Ajay Devgn.

The film is the debut production by Pathak whose father, producer Kumar Mangat, has delivered various comedies in the past along with acclaimed and edgy fair like 2006's “Omkara," director Vishal Bharadwaj's take on “Othello” set in the rustic ganglands of central India.

“Guest” will be shot over a 50-day schedule at Mumbai's Yash Raj Film Studios and other locations in the city.

WBPI first forayed into local production with big budget caper “Chandni Chowk to China” starring top actor Akshay Kumar early this year, which performed below expectations. The studio's distribution deals have included last year's comedy “Saas Bahu Aur Sensex” ("Mother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law and the Stock Exchange") and upcoming release “SRK."
